Final Exam

4. My most transformative picture is the one of the purple flower below. This changed my view on photography because when I went out to shoot for this project, I saw the world in a different way. The flowers stood out to me more, the vibrant colors popped against the dull sky. I took the advice Mr. Farley had given me and I got down on my knees to shoot the flowers. The few feet of height made a huge difference on the angle and the flower looked completely different close up. Ever since then I have seen the world through different eyes. As cheesy as this may sound, I have actually learned how to get close and learned what it means to get close. It took almost 30 pictures to get the picture I finally had in mind, and after all that I ended up choosing a picture that was completely different, one that had not even crossed my mind.

5. The difference between shape and form is that shape is 2D and form is 3D. My picture for form  is was taken in the MSJ Garden. This illustrates form because the parts of the pine cone are showed in 3D and it expresses length, depth, and width. My picture for shape was taken outside near Ms. Waller's room. I picked a leaf because it is so thin that it looks 2D and the leaf has a clear closed line making it a geometric figure. It expresses length and width, but not depth.
6. Pattern is the shape being repeated multiple times throughout the picture while repetition is similar to pattern but makes the picture seem more active. My pictures for pattern and repetition are linked above.
7. My about me page was inspired by Vivian Chen. From her page, it is obvious she is an outgoing person and she loves to interact with people. I wanted to give off the same vibe as her, therefore she is my inspiration.
8. My last three projects were my final project, my presentation project, and my commercial shoot project. I think my best work came from the final project. This is because it was so abstract and it showed a part of me. I am very energetic and have many different emotion so I was really able to express myself through that project. This project changed my because it taught me that I can express myself in ways other than just talking to other. I think this is my best work because I was able to use one of my rules of composition, color.

Student Website Reviews

My favorite website from period 1 is Aileen's. My favorite picture from her blog is the one with the girl blowing the bubbles. I love the way she is positioned and how her hair was going the same way as the bubbles.

My favorite website from period 2 is Andrew's. My favorite picture on his blog is the one of someone taking a picture of the sunset. This picture is interesting to me because of the lines the sun's rays make.

My favorite website from period 3 is Lucas's. My favorite picture on his blog is the one with the water bottle sideways. This picture is intriguing because the water makes ripples and the way the picture is positioned makes the viewer think about how the picture was taken.

Story with a Photo- Legacy Bricks

Each of these bricks represents a story, each year the school adds a new design to the collage. At one point in their lives almost every student buys a legacy brick. The bricks can have your name on them or something to inspire others. Although each brick looks the same from a distance, each brick has a special meaning behind it. They represent the student's life here at Mission they tell their story.

MSJMCW Story

The bell rings and all the students run to the various food booths and try to find their friends. They stand in line waiting for tickets to buy their food. Then they wait for their food, this is the one week where all the cultures combine, we try new food, eat the things we love, and we get to experience what it is like to be a part of the Mission Community. This is the one week of the year, aside from homecoming we all look forward to. The best day of all is yet to come, all the performances that have months of preparation behind them, the assembly that L2 and many of the students have put countless hours of work into. Nobody wants this week to be over, but everything good must come to an end.

Shutter Speed and Everything After

My partner is Neha Saxena
Her Blog: http://nehasaxena-photos.blogspot.com/
Lens Blog Photo

  1. The trucks on the right side are not blurry therefore it has fast shutter speed.
  2.  I choose leading lines as a rule of composition for this picture because the guard rail goes through the scene pulling me into the picture. Neha saw the rule of depth because the viewer can see all the way down the guard rail.
  3. I choose line as an element of art because the lines on the truck flipped over show line. Also the line on the side of the highway show more line.
  4. I choose pattern as a principal of design because the second part of the flipped over has blue blocks going across of it. These blocks or lines create a pattern which catches they eye.

Principles of Design- UNITY

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. I see unity in this picture because the similar shape of all the holes in the bench create a sense of completion. Since the shapes are almost congruent, it gives off a very calming vibe.
Shadows: -100
Whites: +25
Blacks: -67
Vibrance: -18

Variety in Lens

I thought Picture 12 showed the most variety. Picture 12 uses line, pattern, and shape to keep the viewers attention. Although it is a simple picture, the lines of the bed and the patterns on the mattress keep the viewer guessing.

Principles of Design- VARIETY

Vibrance: +100

Principles of Design- RHYTHM

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. I think this picture shows rhythm because it uses the element of art, line, to create and organized movement. The amount of branches and the different shapes create a calming feeling for someone to look at.

Principles of Design- MOVEMENT

I did not edit this photo in Camera Raw. I think this picture shows movement because your eyes immediately go to the large plant in the front, and then they go to the bee, and finally to the other plants in the background.

Principles of Design- EMPHASIS

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. I think this photo shows emphasis because the flower stands out among the leaves because of color and shape.
Temperature: -17
Contrast: +88
Saturation: +46

Principles of Design- PATTERN

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. This photo shows pattern because the shape of the cactus' leaf is repeated many times, and it is the same shape throughout the picture multiple times.
Clarity: +38
Vibrance: +10
Saturation: +3
Tint: -32

Principles of Design- REPETITION

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. This picture shows repetition because all though the shape of the rocks are not congruent, they are similar and that creates pattern, and makes the picture seem intriguing and active.
Shadows -67
Clarity +43
Vibrance to -18
Saturation to +62.

Principals of Design- PROPORTION

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. I think this picture shows proportion because it compares the size of the bell tower to the overhang and to the tree and pole next to it.
Vibrance: +8.

Principals of Design in Structures- BALANCE

I edited this photo in Camera Raw. I believe this photo has balance because the dark bell tower and the bright sun behind it even each other out. The clouds and the circle around the sun take some of the focus away from the bell tower to create balance.
Clarity: +5
Vibrance: -14

From Smartphones to Museum Walls

My Favorite Picture

This is my favorite picture because:
-the background
-the lighting
-the way the hammocks are framed by the trees
